Stop “Waiting to Be Happy.”

True happiness is… to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.

Today  I read about happiness as I did my morning devotion.

It’s interesting how most people in this world wait for that “special thing” that will supposedly make them happy. Some wait for years–for happiness that may not last. For some, it’s the perfect job, perfect marriage, a degree, a promotion, a baby and the list goes on..

But that “special thing” may not truly make you happy. Sometimes we look for happiness in all the wrong places. Being happy starts within ourselves and with the thoughts we choose to entertain.

What we think about day and night becomes our focus, and ultimately  it will determine our happiness.

Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.

Don’t wait for that “special thing” that may or may not ever happen. Choose to be happy today. Stop focusing so much on yourself and think about ways to help others–that ought to make you happy.

My mother and I being "happy."

My mother and I being “happy.”

Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.

  1. You know when I found my true happiness? The day I stopped looking for it! It’s funny how that happened because I was writing in my prayer journal and I went back to read my blessings and it hit me. I’m very blessed and God does so many wonderful things in my life so how could I be unhappy!
